The 60 m deep water well is in use. The water is not clean for drinking directly, but it can be used for cooking and washing cloths. Plans are underway to put a Chlorine dispenser by the water well.

Gilwadzi Village~~Update#13

Some pictures from Day#4 of pump installation  at Gilwadzi Primary School:

  • The construction of the pump stand (slab) is done but it will be a while before clean water starts flowing
  • Once the slab is dry, hand pumping will start–the water will not be good for drinking for several days but could be used for washing cloths etc..
  • The borehole is 60m (~180ft ) deep.

You are welcome to visit our Exhibit Booth starting Monday, August 24th — Saturday August 29th. In Building #2, look for …

… “I planted the seed, Appollos watered it, BUT God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is ANYTHING, but ONLY God, who makes things grow.” 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NIV).

Gilwadzi Village~~Update#10

Currently the students at Gilwadzi Primary School (enrollment of 447 pupils, 221 girls and 226 boys, 12 teaching staff and 3 non-teaching staff)  fetch water from ADUKA  spring located  about 4 km  (2.5miles) from the school compound.

We  are trusting God that the sign below will be posted at Gilwadzi School soon…. and the water well will provide clean water to about 500 households of about 6-10 people

NOTE: Gilwadzi  village has ~500 households of approximately 6-10 people.

Awaiting advice on pump capacity before scheduling pump installation.

Borehole/Well development is DONE! Thank you for praying and believing!!! Next:

  • Step#7: Test pumping of the borehole, a process which allows for measuring how much water the borehole is yielding versus the recharging rate. Ensure water is continuously pumped out of the borehole for a sustained period. Helps determine pump to be installed.~~Tentatively scheduled: Sunday August 9th/Monday  August 10th

Well development (the two steps below) went on without major issues. Thanks for praying!!

  • Step#5: Insert the casing/ slotted casing at the well bottom, which basically is PVC rim that supports the borehole walls to ensure that the walls do not collapse, leaving a one meter piece of PVC casing protruding above the ground level to ensure that run-off rain or other water and silt does not find its way into the borehole.~~Wrapping up by Saturday (8/8/15)
  • Step#6: Pack the circumference of the well on the exterior of the casing using specially graded sand or gravel that serves as a water filter. ~~Wrapping up by Saturday (8/8/15)

Today was slow–spent most of the day consulting. The drilling crew and geological surveyor are on the same page:The well can be developed at the 60m (~180ft) depth. Below is where the process stands:

What has been accomplished in the Drilling Process:

  • Step#1: A hydro-geological study to locate where reservoirs or underground water springs exist as well as to establish aquifer depth with enough water in the aquifers to feed/charge/recharge the borehole.~~DONE
  • Step#2: Seek local government permit to drill~~DONE
  • Step#3: Mobilize and set up of the equipment at the site. To guarantee a straight well in to the ground , the mast is erected using a spirit level to ensure that the machine is set upright.~~DONE
  • Step#4: Drilling borehole proceeds using for example an air hammer (DTH) equipement until water has been struck.~~DONE
  • Step#5: Insert the casing/ slotted casing at the well bottom, which basically is PVC rim that supports the borehole walls to ensure that the walls do not collapse, leaving a one meter piece of PVC casing protruding above the ground level to ensure that run-off rain or other water and silt does not find its way into the borehole.~~ON GOING
  • Step#6: Pack the circumference of the well on the exterior of the casing using specially graded sand or gravel that serves as a water filter. ~~TBD
  • Step#7: Test pumping of the borehole, a process which allows for measuring how much water the borehole is yielding versus the recharging rate. Ensure water is continuously pumped out of the borehole for a sustained period. Helps determine pump to be installed.~~TBD
  • Step#8: Pump Installation.~~TBD
  • Step#9: Build a raised slab around the borehole, which ensures that any sitting water flows away.~~TBD
  • Step#10: Well Dedication and hand over to Well Committee.~~TBD

Please continue in prayer for the drilling crew as they work on developing the borehole!!

The drilling crew will  continue to install  upto 60m(~180ft) deep steel casing see pictures below to secure the borehole before installing the pvc casing and then pour gravel between the steel and pvc casings.

Pray for continued strength to fight the excess flood of mud and safety of the drilling crew.

The drilling crew is having a hard time placing the casing into the borehole due to presence of soft soil. So far they have installed 20m of casing but the sight similar to the pictures below is not giving way to clear water as yet:

The heavy rains in the area continue to make the casing efforts difficult.

Please pray for a breakthrough.
